Frequently
Asked Questions
How Do I Join Aleppo Cycles?
To join the Aleppo Cycles unit you just first be a member of the Aleppo
Shrine. After joining the shrine, it's just a simple matter of filling
out a unit application, attending one of our regular monthly business meetings
and a vote by the unit members. If you would like some more information
about joining the Aleppo Cycles unit, contact the unit Captain.
How Much Does It Cost to Join the Cycles Unit?
Cycles members pay annual dues to the unit of $50.00. The dues can be earned
by volunteering with the Provost Guard unit and assist with parking details
during the many events held each year at our auditorium. Each five hour
detail earns the member $30. Each member is also asked to make a financial
committment in the form of a $250 - $500 deposit. In the event a member leaves the unit, the
deposit is returned in full.
Do I Need to Own a Motorcycle to Join?
While many of our members enjoy owning their own motorcycles it is not required
that you have one to join the unit. However, you must posses a valid motorcycle
endorsement on your license. You must also pass the riding qualification test
before riding any of the unit bikes in a parade. The motorcylces we ride in parades
and competitions are supplied by the unit. As a member of our unit you will be assigned a
bike to ride during practice and parades. Each member is responsible, with
assistance from the maintenance officer, for keeping their assigned bike
in safe working order.
When and Where Does The Cycle Unit Meet
The unit meets every Tuesday at 7:00 PM for drill practice at the auditorium
in Wilmington. The third Tuesday of each month we hold our regular business
meeting in the Provost Guard room at the auditorium.
What Do I Have To Wear?
As a premier unit of the Aleppo Shrine we take pride in our riding and how
we look. Each unit member is smartly dressed in our class A uniform which
consists of blue police yellow-stripped uniform pants, a short sleeve police
uniform shirt adorned with cycle patches and pins, black belt and black
Wellington style boots. Each member of the unit is responsible for purchasing
their own uniform which is worn in all parades, competitions and ceremonials.
Upon joining the unit the Quartermaster will provide you with a list of
items to purchase and where you can purchase them.
What Happens If I Can't Make all the Parades or Competitions?
We hope that people who join our unit will make every effort to be active
in the unit. However, we understand that there are other commitments such
as family, business and personal that take people's time. As long as you
still have enthusiasm for riding and participate as much a you can you'll
always be a member of the cycle unit.
